ReSkate Guide: Download, Install, Mods & Offline Play

Download ReSkate from its official releases, install the supported skate. build, manage mods, play offline, and troubleshoot common setup problems.

ReSkate lets Steam owners of skate. use a local launcher for offline sessions, mods and private multiplayer. It is a community project, unaffiliated with EA or Full Circle. Official project documentation.

This ReSkate guide starts with a clean installation, then adds mods and multiplayer. Get one unmodded session working first: that gives you a useful baseline when something goes wrong.

ReSkate download: choose the player package

Use the project's official GitHub releases. At our October 15, 2026 review, the latest published version was v2.0.7, released October 12.

FileIntended use
ReSkate-2.0.7.zipThe client package for players. Start here.
ReSkateServer-2.0.7.zipA Windows dedicated server, for someone hosting one.
ReSkateServer-Linux-2.0.7.tar.gzA native Linux dedicated server; this is not the Linux player client.
GitHub's source-code archivesSource files for developers, rather than a ready-to-play installation.

These filenames belong to the v2.0.7 release. For a later release, follow that release's assets and instructions.

How to install ReSkate on Windows

Have your own Steam copy of skate., an internet connection for initial setup, and roughly 14 GB available for the separate game installation.

  1. Create an empty, writable folder for ReSkate. We recommend keeping this installation separate from Steam's normal game folder.
  2. Extract the client ZIP there. Keep ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll together.
  3. Open the launcher and finish its checks. INSTALL means the game is missing; DOWNLOAD means the existing game files need the supported build.
  4. Authenticate with the Steam account that owns skate. when prompted, and let installation finish.
  5. Once PLAY becomes available, launch without adding mods. Check that you can enter a map, skate, quit and launch again.

The launcher distinguishes these installation states in its v2.0.7 interface. That release targets Steam build 25414733; a newer Steam build is not automatically compatible. Supported-build definition.

Watch the documentation version. The v2.0.7 instructions permit either an empty folder or the existing Steam game folder. The development-branch instructions have changed to require a separate folder. Use the documentation attached to the release you actually downloaded.

Playing skate. offline with ReSkate

Finish the initial downloads before disconnecting. ReSkate can launch offline with Steam closed, using the --offline flag. Offline launcher behavior. Your offline profile is stored under %LOCALAPPDATA%\ReSkate\profiles\offline\.

Press Insert for the ReSkate menu; its binding can be changed in launcher settings. Release-specific offline and control instructions.

Before travelling or relying on a disconnected session, try an offline launch yourself. Back up your local profile before experimenting with a large mod collection.

ReSkate mods: build up a working set

Open the launcher's MODS page. Use GET MODS to browse Thunderstore, or import a mod ZIP or folder. The launcher manages installation and enabled state; avoid manually rearranging unfamiliar package contents. Mod-import implementation.

Our recommended workflow:

  1. Choose one mod and read its requirements.
  2. Install it, restart the game and test the change you expected.
  3. Add the next mod only after that test passes.
  4. If something breaks, disable the latest addition and repeat the same test.

The launcher names mods it cannot merge. Its list loads from top to bottom, with the higher mod taking precedence when two modify the same content. Check that order when a cosmetic or map change appears missing. Launcher mod-list behavior.

In v2.0.7, custom Lua files in scripts/Custom are disabled. Do not assume every script-based mod will work. v2.0.7 mod limitations.

Private multiplayer: lobby or dedicated server?

For a session with friends, ReSkate supports Steam lobbies with join codes and optional passwords. Multiplayer still needs a network connection. Lobby documentation.

A dedicated server runs separately from the game. Its configuration can require a password, and listed: false hides it from the browser so players need its code. Follow the versioned server setup guide rather than putting server files into your player installation.

Players and dedicated servers must both use v2.0.7 to connect with that release. It changed the multiplayer protocol. v2.0.7 release notes.

ReSkate not working? Start with the symptom

The following checks are based on the launcher's v2.0.7 troubleshooting messages, rather than guesses about every crash.

SymptomFirst check
Missing or damaged ReSkate.dllRe-extract the launcher and DLL from the same official client ZIP; inspect quarantine history if a file disappeared.
Unsupported game buildUse the launcher's supported-build download with your Steam account.
Steam download stopsConfirm ownership, free space and connectivity; retry authentication if needed.
Folder write errorsMove the complete installation to a folder your account can write to.
Update service unavailableRetry the connection. Offline mode is an option only if the required game files are already installed.
Game closes during startupClose overlays and inspect the security software's event history before retrying.

If a large mod collection triggers a texture-limit warning, reduce it: v2.0.7 warns at 90% of its texture limit. If joining fails, check the client/server versions before reinstalling everything. Release notes.

For a reproducible problem, record your ReSkate version, platform, exact symptom and whether it happens with mods disabled. Include the relevant logs\ReSkate.log when reporting it, after checking the file for information you do not want to share publicly.

What about Linux and Steam Deck?

Follow the release's Proton instructions. Its documented test covers the earlier ReSkate 1.1.3; Steam Deck is marked untested. We have not verified v2.0.7 on Linux.

Have an idea for your own skating game?

For inspiration, explore OpenGame's browser-game gallery. To prototype an original idea, start in OpenGame Studio with one mechanic, such as landing a jump or completing a short trick sequence. Studio generation uses credits; ReSkate is a separate local PC-game project.

Reviewed October 15, 2026 against the project's v2.0.7 documentation, release assets, launcher implementation and server guide linked above. This is a documentation-based guide; we did not install ReSkate or test gameplay. Installation rules, supported builds and mod compatibility may change in later releases.
