Needle in a Haystack

Clear the layers, collect the finds, and uncover the needle.

What is Needle in a Haystack?

Needle in a Haystack is a layered search game played with the pointer. Drag hay away from a patch, then pick up objects only after they are exposed. Selling valuables pays for a rake that clears more bundles and a magnet that senses buried metal. The magnet narrows the search, but you still have to remove the hay and pick up the needle yourself.

02Your first run

How do you play Needle in a Haystack?

  1. Start with the hand

Begin Needle in a Haystack by dragging from a hay bundle to clear its top layer. Repeat on the patch to expose objects beneath it; a tap on a concealed needle does not collect it.

  2. Collect and sell finds

Click or tap exposed valuables to put them in the tray. Sell them for $10 each and use the money to purchase tools.

  3. Choose how to search

The $20 Rake clears up to three reachable bundles per stroke. The $30 Magnet checks a 3×3 patch for buried metal without clearing hay or identifying the exact needle cell.

  4. Expose the needle

Use your tools to clear the remaining layers in a promising area. Pick up the exposed needle to finish and see your time and tool usage.

Needle in a Haystack starts with the Hand tool. Exposed valuables can pay for the optional rake and magnet.

03Make the next run count

How can you improve at Needle in a Haystack?

Sell before shopping

In Needle in a Haystack, clearing hay itself earns no cash. Collect the revealed valuables and sell the tray; an unaffordable tool purchase will not go through.

Use deliberate rake strokes

The rake starts from the bundle where your gesture begins. Its preview helps you see the adjacent bundles that the stroke will reach.

Treat magnet signals as clues

Coins also count as metal. A positive scan means there is buried metal somewhere in the patch, so clear and inspect it instead of assuming it marks the needle.

Questions about Needle in a Haystack

Why does tapping the needle not finish Needle in a Haystack?

Needle in a Haystack requires the needle to be fully exposed before collection. Clear the hay layers covering it, then tap or click the visible needle.

How does the magnet work in Needle in a Haystack?

The Needle in a Haystack magnet senses buried metal in a 3×3 patch, including coins. It removes no hay and does not reveal the exact cell.

How do I buy tools in Needle in a Haystack?

Needle in a Haystack pays $10 per exposed valuable when you collect it and sell the tray. The rake costs $20 and the magnet costs $30; clearing bundles alone pays nothing.

Can I play Needle in a Haystack on a phone?

On a phone, Needle in a Haystack uses dragging to clear hay, tapping to collect exposed objects and holding to scan with the magnet. Tool purchases and New Pile use on-screen buttons.
